Today we have a guest post featuring Onebed. Ready for good sleep?

This is How You Make Your Child’s Bedroom More Sleep-Friendly

How You Make Your Child’s Bedroom More Sleep-FriendlyIs your child’s room sleep-friendly? Their bedroom can actually have many uses. Aside from sleeping, it can be used as a study room, playroom among others. Because why not? If you have limited space, the bedroom can be multi-purpose.

The thing with a multi-purpose room though, it could be less conducive for sleep for your children at night. Of course, we still want them to have their much-deserved sleep but how can we make a room more sleep-friendly then, if it’s used in multiple ways?

Pay attention to the room lighting. – During the day, you may probably want a lot of natural lighting coming inside the room. Who doesn’t love a bright room? It’s good when your children are doing a lot of activities inside the room.

You also save on electricity when you have lots of natural lighting coming in as you will need less artificial lighting to brighten the room up. However, it’s more difficult to sleep when the room is bright though. Especially during summer, when the days could be longer.

So what will you do? Maintain a room with lots of natural lighting versus a room that’s too bright, it’s more difficult for your child to sleep? How can you balance that out?

You can have the best of both worlds actually. You can do this by installing blackout curtains or blinds. During the day, you get to enjoy the natural lighting and when it’s time to sleep – you can put them down to block the remaining light.

If you want your children to take advantage of the natural lighting yet you want them to sleep better come bedtime, invest in blackout drapes.

Replace your child’s mattress.–Because the bedroom maybe multi-purpose, your child’s bed may have gone through a lot already. If they have been using it for a long time already, consider replacing it soon.

Mattresses aren’t built to last for a lifetime, even the good ones. If it has been in use for years, it may now be deformed on some areas and probably a breeding ground of allergens, dust mites, and such now. All of them contributing to your child’s lack of sleep.

Why is it so hard to replace a mattress? Some parents find it burdensome because it could be quite a hassle to get one from the stores and difficult to transport back the bulky purchase. Parents, you can actually order a mattress online.

If you’re still worried about the bulk, some manufacturers place the mattress in a box. It’s your usual mattress but compressed into a smaller box which is less cumbersome. Find out though if the manufacturer offers more information on warranties just to be sure when you’re buying online.

Clear the clutter. – What’s one more thing that makes it difficult for children to sleep? The distraction. If they have their unfinished activities, toys, and other things lying around the room – they may get distracted.

The things scattered would remind them of things to do, instead of preparing already for bedtime. The clutter would still keep their mind active.

To avoid this, get some bins or boxes where they could put away their ongoing projects, toys, and such. Develop this habit with the children to put things away when they are done for the day.

With this, the room is cleaner and less distracting to them most especially if it’s bedtime already.

Even if your children use the bedroom for multiple reasons, it’s still possible to make it more sleep-friendly at the end of the day. You can change their drapes to blackout ones, change their old mattress, and organize their room. These three tips could make a difference in their bedtime routine. This means better quality sleep for your children.
